The human world cannot be separated from that of nature. Eco-criticism studies literature and environment from an interdisciplinary perspective and aims at improving human life on cultural, social, ethical and psychological levels. Anita Desai, deeply connected with nature, uses natural imagery throughout her works from Cry, the Peacock (1963) to The Zigzag Way (2004). This paper examines eco-critical refractions in Cry, the Peacock, where nature mirrors Maya's psychological turmoil. Desai does not focus on pollution or ecological destruction; instead, she presents nature as soothing, symbolic, and reflective of the protagonist's deteriorating psyche through symbols, metaphors and images.
